Project Description
Ianua
Genoa in the Middle Ages. The medieval history of the Superba translated into a documentary series: research from the Department of Humanities brought to a wide audience, distributed on RAI Cultura.
01From research to storytelling
The University of Genoa holds decades of research on the city’s medieval history. Knowledge available only in academic form — theses, papers, monographs — and therefore inaccessible to a wide audience. Renovatio was brought in to translate this research into quality audiovisual storytelling.
The result is a multi-episode documentary series, produced in close coordination with researchers from the Department of Humanities: direction and cinematography calibrated to television standards, a narrative designed for an educated but non-specialist audience, distribution on RAI Cultura.
Ianua — “the gate”, the Latin name for Genoa — moves through the sites of the medieval city: the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Doria family enclave at San Matteo, San Donato, Sant’Agostino, Santa Maria di Castello, the towers, Porta Soprana and the maze of the carruggi.
